This button comes from the “pottery town” of San Juan de Oriente, Nicaragua where a deep deposit of clay has kept the tradition of pottery making alive for centuries. The families of potters there are known for their vases but a Nicaraguan friend of mine convinced one woman to make buttons for her. That was years ago and she hasn’t made any since so there are very few available. The pottery buttons are hand painted and hand carved using the old ways.
